In the Northern region of Lombardy, you can find not only the business epicentre of the country and fashion capital of Milan, but also the contrasting surrounds of countryside, mountains, lakes and lush nature. It may surprise some to learn that it’s the region with the highest number of UNESCO World Heritage listed sites in the country which is no easy feat when up against cultural heavyweights like Rome. Milan plays host to many world renowned art galleries and was the birthplace of Caravaggio and home for a number of years to Leonardo Da Vinci. Other places of interest in the Lombardy region include Bergamo, Como, Lake Garda, Lake Iseo and Lake Maggiore. The region’s meat-heavy cuisine is rich and warming with dishes including cotoletta, ossobucco, saffron risotto, polenta, and even the famous Christmas panettone dessert.
